Description (Some HTML is OK)

My grandpa made this Chex mix every year for Christmas, and now my dad has taken over the tradition. I like to make a huge batch of it each year when I'm baking Christmas cookies and share it with friends. This recipe makes a ton, but it freezes well.

Ingredients

Makes 0 servings

  • 1 ¼ cup melted butter or margarine
  • 1 c soy sauce
  • 1 c Worcestershire or vegetarian Worcestershire
  • 2 tablespoon seasoned salt (optional)
  • 3 tablespoon garlic powder
  • 3 tablespoon onion powder
  • 3 tablespoon celery salt
  • optional: hot sauce or cayenne pepper to taste, if you like it spicy
  • 14 to 20 oz small pretzel sticks
  • 2.5 lbs mixed nuts
  • 1 box (12 cups) each of the following:
  • Rice Chex
  • Wheat Chex
  • Corn Chex
  • Cheerios
  • Cheez-Its

Preparation (Some HTML is OK)

In a small bowl, mix melted butter/margarine with soy sauce, worcestershire, and spices. Blend other ingredients in a large roasting pan until thoroughly mixed, then drizzle with butter sauce. Bake at 250 degrees for at least 2 hours, or until all ingredients are crisp, stirring every 15 minutes.

Note: Vegetarian Worcestershire sauce can be found at most grocery stores. Just check the cheapest brands and store brands for one not containing anchovies. Specialty stores like Whole Foods also sell specially marketed vegetarian brands.
