Description (Some HTML is OK)
A traditional Dutch early December treat! Lovely tiny spicy biscuits that are sure to make you feel mighty seasonal. The spicing as given is my sort of 'standard-flavour' but feel free to experiment. I haven't indicated a serving estimate, because they're to share amongst however many (or actually, to have it all yourself...)
Ingredients
Makes 0 servings
- 250 gr flour
- 1 tsp baking powder
- 125 gr cold butter (unsalted and diced)
- 125 gr brown sugar *
- 50 gr golden syrup *
- 1 tbsp ground cinnamon
- 2 tsp ground cloves
- 2 tsp ground cardamum
- 1 tsp ground ginger
- 2 tsp salt
Preparation
* ( As an alternative to golden syrup, use 25 gr of brown sugar extra and a couple of tablespoons of very cold milk)
In a bowl, mix all ingredients into a soft (but not sticky) ball of dough. As with all doughs, it'll pay off to let it sit in a cool place (ie. fridge) for a while (but it isn't stricly necessary I suppose).
Grease a tray, and divide the dough up in small balls, about the size of a decent marble. Place them on the tray and slightly push them down.
Bake at 175 C for 10-15 minutes, until golden brown and crispy.
Cool off and enjoy!
