Ingredients

Makes 4 servings

  • 225 g Yellow split peas
  • 1 onion
  • 3 fresh green chillies
  • 1 tin chopped tomatoes
  • ½ tsp cumin seeds
  • ½ tsp chilli powder
  • ½ tsp turmeric
  • 4 tbls sunflower oil

Preparation (Some HTML is OK)

Put the split peas and turmeric in a saucepan with 2 pints of water, cover and cook on a low heat for 1 hour or so until soft.

Finely chop the onion and green chillies and fry together until soft without browning.

Add the chilli powder and cumin seeds to the onion and fry gently for a few minutes then stir in the tomatoes and split pea mixture. Mash it together to break up the peas then cook for another 20 mins.
