Description (Some HTML is OK)

These spice cookies are not my grandmother's recipe, but they're my friend Sarah's grandmother's recipe. They're quick to bake and taste great. I like to make them around Halloween for pumpkin-carving parties.

Ingredients

Makes 0 servings

  • 2 cups sifted flour
  • 1 ½ teaspoon baking powder
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • ½ teaspoon cinnamon
  • ¼ teaspoon allspice
  • 1 tablespoon soy milk, cream or half-and-half
  • ¼ teaspoon ground clove
  • ¼ teaspoon ground ginger
  • 1 cup sugar
  • ½ cup shortening
  • 1 egg, or egg replacer for one egg, or 1/4 c. applesauce
  • ½ teaspoon vanilla

Preparation (Some HTML is OK)

Mix and sift dry ingredients in a medium bowl. In a mixer or large bowl, cream shortening and sugar, then add egg, vanilla and cream and beat until well-mixed. Stir in dry ingredients and add enough additional flour (about 1/4
cup) to make a fairly stiff dough. Chill in the refrigerator for at least one hour. Roll dough 1 inch thick and cut with your favorite cookie cutters. Bake on a
greased cookie sheet 5-10 minutes at 375F.
